Outer Brain is getting ready a VR title “Organ Quarter”, and they have just launched a Kickstarter. This title is HTC Vive only for now, but it will have Oculus Rift with Touch compatibility. Organ Quarter is really a room scale/motion control title build in the world of old school horror.
Well first to kick things off, here’s a kickstarter trailer to give you a rough idea on what is the game about. (just a pre-alpha footage for now, so it may not represent the final product)
Organ Quarters contain several elements which defines the old school survival horror titles: labyrinthine environments, resource management and intriguing puzzles. The objective of this title is to leverage hand-tracked and room-scale VR to provide the scariest, most intense and unsettling VR experience possible. The game is played out like a traditional survival horror adventure title. Player will be roaming in the world to progress the game, searching for key items to unlock the next part of the puzzle.
Its not all exploration and puzzle solving. The game also features simple gunfighting gameplay as well. Players will find themselves engaging in battle against weird and disgusting looking creatures along the way.
In this title, the player assume the role of a man, “Dr Alset”, an isolated individual who has to leave their squalid home, only to realist that everywhere has been turned into a wasteland chock full of nightmarish terrors, surreal puzzles and grotesque beings.
According to the developer, they are aiming for the game to last 5 to 7 hours. The rooms will be a well mixed of tight, claustrophobic environments and expansive open areas. Despite that, the game will not feel ‘segmented’ at all. The rooms are interconnected, and the players are free to go where they wish, and this is actually required as they are encouraged to explore the rooms for items and keys. To encourage replay, there will be secrets, deeper puzzles and unlockables as well.
Outer Brain aims to release the title somewhere in July to August 2017. It will first come to HTC Vive, before releasing on the Oculus Rift with Touch compatibility. The wait for the Oculus Rift will be within several months of the HTC Vive launch but before 2018.
The developers will head on to create a non-VR version after they have released the VR version for both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
This game is inspired and also a tribute to a range of classic horror titles, such as the Silent Hill 2, Alone in the Dark, Thief II: The Metal Age, Condemned Criminal Origins, Dead Space and Resident Evil 7.
At the moment, much of the game’s tools and assets are completed, with the Kickstarter fund goes toward paying for the rent for the next few months, as well as recruiting freelancers (such as artists, voice actors etc) , as well as advertising/promotion.
If you wish to try out the game, a pre-alpha Demo is also available right now!
The game kickstarter will end 28 days from now (9 March), and there’s a $6500 stretch goal. The game has a amassed $1739 so far. If you will like to help play a part towards the creation of this title, you can help back this project on the kickstarter at the following link.
