Work on the HTC Vive for racing simulation game, “Assetto Corsa” has started, according to game developer Kunos on the forum.
Published by 505 Games, Assetto Corsa was first released on the PC in late 2014, followed by a console release last year August. The long road to HTC Vive support is quite a complicated one for this title.
The developer wasn’t considering the possibility of the HTC Vive version back in last year March, but few days later, the developer states in a Dev Diary that their aim is to “support VR – and not necessarily only the Oculus Rift”.
In mid April, however, a HTC Vive has arrived by the doorsteps of the company, which fuel the possibility of the Vive version. Official support for the Rift (which first started in 2013 for the DK1, but ceased temporarily until 1.6 update drops in May) was released in May 18, and HTC Vive users are able to play it using the workaround software ReVive. After months of teasing, and requests from HTC Vive users, the developer has finally posted the confirmation on the forum (you need to sign up an account to access the post) with the thread title “Official Kunos Stance on Vive?”, with the following message.
For now, the game can be purchased on Steam, but if you want to buy it for Vive support, I will suggest to wait until the Vive support is released.
