Overkill Software has announced that Payday 2 will be having a virtual reality mode. According to announcement, this is Payday 2 in its entire entity and not a short experience.
PAYDAY 2 is an action-packed, four-player co-op shooter that once again lets gamers don the masks of the original PAYDAY crew – Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf and Chains – as they descend on Washington DC for an epic crime spree.
Payday 2 VR will be available for free for those who already have Payday 2, so players won’t need to double dip in this case. Furthermore, there will be cross-play between the VR and non-VR players. VR players will be able to participate in bank heist together with non-VR players.
The trailer suggest that there will be artificial locomotion, with motion movement being used for some actions too. The trailer features HTC Vive, but it is likely that Oculus Rift will be supported too.
Considering that it is a subsidiary of Starbreeze Studios, this news make sense, considering that Starbreeze has been involved in many moves in the VR industry, such as the acquisition of InfinitEye and Project StarVR.
Payday VR 2 was announced at the Starstream event, hosted by publisher Starbreeze. The 2D flat screen version is already available on the PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and will be coming to Nintendo Switch.
