Oculus New Release: The Mage’s Tale

Oculus’ times exclusive “The Mage’s Tale” has launched on the Oculus Store! This title from inXile Entertainment will be limited to Oculus platform for a year.

As the title implies, this is an adventure title that lets you play as a mage, or rather a mage apprentice. You mission is to rescue your kidnapped master, but before that you need to embark on a journey that involved exploration, traps, fighting and puzzles, as you train and practice your mage skills to face the corrupt wizard Gaufroi.

 Welcome, apprentice of the mystic arts! The corrupt wizard Gaufroi has kidnapped your master, Mage Alguin, and only you have any hope of saving him. You may be an apprentice now, but to save your master, you will need to explore ten deadly dungeons, decipher mind-bending puzzles, avoid terrifying traps, and vanquish hordes of vicious monsters. Until you are able to wield every elemental power in the palm of your hand, evil remains ascendant! It is your turn now to sling gouts of flame, javelins of ice, arcs of lightning, and swirling tempests! Don your wizard’s robe and begin your Mage’s Tale! 

Oculus Blog has a spotlight article with the creators of the game. In the article, the developers speak about the unique challenges of making a VR title, as well as the opportunity to learn about developing for VR, such as binaural audio and 3d spatial audio.

InXile Entertainment also speaks about collaborating with Ged Grimes of Simple Minds fame as well, going in depth on how they meet each other and how they roped him in for the project. 

The studio also opens up about the locomotion systems, and some information that gear towards their studios, including the opening of the NOLA office, and the future of VR.
