“Titanic: Honor and Glory” is one of, if not the most ambitious VR game project that is being conceived so far. It is an upcoming action/adventure/mystery game, under develop by Vintage Digital Revival LLC, formerly known as Four Funnels Entertainment. The earliest showing for this title can be traced back in 2013, and is scheduled for a 2018 release.
As the name implies, the game is set on the iconic, real time passenger liner, “RMS Titanic“, which collided with an iceberg on her maiden voyage to New York City, causing one of the most deadliest commericial peacetime maritime disasters in modern history (with more than 1500 dead).
Titanic: Honor and Glory is part non-fictional, part fictional. In this game, you play as a 23 year old boy who got mistakenly framed as the prime suspect behind a series of major crimes, and is forced to get on board the RMS Titanic to find the true perpetrators to prove your innocence. This is as far as the fictional part extend. As for the non-fictional part, that will not only include the setting, but also the characters that you are able to interact with on board the RMS Titanic as well.
It is said that the developers has poured in lots of efforts and resources to make the non-fictional part as authentic as possible. Every part of the real world liner will be replicated into this virtual version, with details made as accurately and realistic as possible (there will also be a tour mode for player to explore them). Various historians has also been consulted as well for this massive game project too.
The development is far from over, and while the developer has previously released 2 demos , they were not VR compatible. The launch of this new 3rd demo includes a seperate VR version for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Check out the latest demo on their demo page.
