Espire 1: VR Operative is an upcoming VR stealth game (by solo developer Michael Wentworth-Bell), that is set to come to the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
This is described by its developer as a “dedicated story-driven, objective based stealth experience” title, and features many interesting and impressive-sounding mechanics.
As Espire 1, you are the world’s first “VR Operative”. shaping a new chapter in espionage operations. You have been accepted into a revolutionary new program that will increase infiltration effectiveness on the field while reducing human casualties. This is achieved by deploying a remote controlled cyborg to carry out the most dangerous of infiltration missions – a cyborg piloted by an Espire agent kilometres away.
The AI for the enemies is rather smart, capable of reacting in according to their environment. They will actively hunt the player, and will react to sight, sound and other stimuli. Take for example, if you toss an item, the enemy soldier will turn and look at the direction of the source of the sound, where the item hits the ground. Other features include voice control (you can perform actions by speaking, and the noise you make can attract the enemy attention) and customizable character.
Here’s a newly released snippet of the game. No release date has been announced yet.
Guards can perceive the sounds of objects as they collide with each other. The Mass, impact velocity, material (wood, metal, etc) and glancing angle affect the radius of the resulting sound. In this video the radius of these sounds are visualized temporarily as wireframe spheres.
