In a bizarre and trivial move, Sony Home Entertainment has just released Ghostbusters VR – Now Hiring Chapter 1, a VR experience set in the Ghostbusters universe, on Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality headsets.
This title was initially launched for Google Cardboard to promote the Ghostbusters movie released in 2016, and carried a price tag of $4.99. It was remade for PSVR, but despite the fresh coat of paint, it remains a short experience with little to no improvement. The PSVR version cost $6.99 was re-titled “Ghostbusters VR – Now Hiring Chapter 1”, with a hint for a Chapter 2 release (that didn’t get announced).
This Windows MR port is a 1:1 port of the PSVR version, and has the same price tag too.
The title is billed as an ‘experience’, and is created by CreateVR as well as Sony’s in-house VR studio team. It takes you on a tour of the firehouse, led by Mooglie, the white ghost featured on the franchise’ logo. You will encounter various elements of the franchise, such as the Slimer, the proton pack, the ghost containment unit and others. The whole experience last probably 3 to 7 minutes and obviously not recommended at all (At least Spider-Man: Homecoming VR Experience is free). But if you insist otherwise, you can purchase the VR title on Windows Store. Here’s a gallery of the screenshots:
