PSVR & Steam New Release: DOOM VFR

You know what this is: Doom VFR from Bethesda is now finally released on Steam and PS Store for HTC Vive and PSVR respectively!

In this action shooter title, player will “play as a cybernetic survivor who is activated by the UAC to fight the demon invasion, maintain order, and prevent catastrophic failure at the Mars facility.”

The title features support for PS Aim Controller, PS Move and Dual Shock 4 on the PS4/PS4 Pro, and HTC Vive controller and gamepad on PC Steam. Unfortunately on the PS Move, it features no smooth locomotion.

The title features 2 unlockable classic maps, which you can access right after clearing the gam. The 2 maps will be presented exactly like they did over 2 decades ago, down to their full low resolution graphics. The enemies you will blast in those classic maps are based on the title from last year though.

“DOOM® VFR brings the fast-paced, brutal gameplay fans of the series love to virtual reality. Immerse yourself in the UAC facility on Mars and the depths of Hell, as your skills are put to the test through intense combat and challenging puzzle-solving. Play as a cybernetic survivor who is activated by the UAC to fight the demon invasion, maintain order, and prevent catastrophic failure at the Mars facility. Lay waste to an army of demonic foes as you explore and interact with the outlandish world of DOOM from an entirely new perspective.

Set shortly after the demonic invasion on the UAC’s Martian research facility, you are the last known human survivor–until your death. Under a top-secret UAC operational contingency protocol, your consciousness is transferred to an artificial brain matrix. Your designated purpose: restore operational stability and use any means necessary to stop the onslaught of demons.”

This title isn’t quite the full fledged title, just in case you haven’t figure it out. It reuses lots of assets from Doom 2016, and is really a mid budget title that offers 4 to 6 hours of gameplay. Still, the gameplay could be fun and its being sold at a lower price.

If you are in for some demon blasting in VR, and have a HTC Vive/PSVR, do check out this title. This title should work on an Oculus Rift (and Windows MR headsets too) since it is a SteamVR title, but do buy at your own risk, as the performance is not ganrauteed.
