Impulse Gear‘s Farpoint, a Playstation VR exclusive shooter title, has a new update today, called the “Versus Expansion Pack” which is free for all Farpoint owners. If you are interested in this title, you can purchase it on the PS Store now.
It features two new PvP modes (Deathmatch and Uplink) that pit 2 players (PS Plus memberships required) against each other. Players can also spawn enemy creatures from the planet and use them strategically to gain an advantage.
On a mission to pick up scientists studying an anomaly near Jupiter, a sudden rupture nearby sends you and their station crashing onto an unknown alien world. Separated from your colleagues, you must use holographic logs scattered throughout the landscape to reunite with the scientists and escape the planet. Explore and discover the secrets of the planet, blasting your way through hordes of indigenous and alien life as you keep moving to survive.
The 2 new PvP modes are based on a system of rounds. To be crowned as the winner, you are required to win 2 out of 3 rounds on each map. Every round is set in a different/seperate area of 1 of the 3 new maps: Underworld, Pipeline and Permafrost.
Player can capture enemy spawn points. By capturing the spawn point, you can make the enemies fight on your side. Each enemy type has their own unique function and abilities, so do take that into consideration when you decide which one to capture: A Grunt type will stay by your side and act as body guard, drones will scan and search for other player, so you can follow them to find out where the other other might be hiding. Goobers act as artillery, lobbing acid balls at your enemy.
In addition to the new modes, the Versus Expansion Pack also includes three new player skins and 15 new weapons which are unlocked by gaining Player and Weapon XP from Challenge, Co-Op and PvP game modes.
Player XP is determined by your performance in multiplayer mode. The score you get is converted to XP, and since PvP scores are generally lower, there is a XP bonus for playing in PvP, allowing you to gain Player XP at the same rate as other game modes. As for Weapon XP, it is awarded by damaging enemies using one of the 5 base weapon classes: Assault Rifle, Shotgun, Precision Rifle, Plasma Rifle and Spike Gun. Each weapon class has 15 levels, and you unlock a new weapon in that class every 5 levels. If you do the math, there are 15 new weapons to unlock, and these weapons play very different from the base weapons too.
The following new features are also included in the Versus Expansion Pack:
- Player XP progression with unlockable skins
- Weapon XP progression with 15 new weapons to unlock
- Chaos difficulty co-op games are now significantly more chaotic!
- Easy crouch while sitting using the crouch button toggle
- New turning comfort settings (yes, they can all be disabled)
- New Trophies
