Fantastic Contraption is one of the earlier VR title to be made available commercially, but it seems the journey has yet to stop. Today, the developer Northway Games and Radial Games send out an notice, stating that the title is seeing a 2.0 update.
But first, here’s the ‘about-this-game’ for the benefit of those who have yet to hear about this title.
Fantastic Contraption is surreal building game for virtual reality. Create life-sized machines as tall as you can reach, then send them whirling, flinging, and trundling off to solve puzzles on the other side of a floating island. Your task is simple: get the squishy purple ball to that goal off in the distance, or above you, or on the other side of that gap. And your tools are elegantly minimalist: spinning wheels and stretchable rods. But the solutions are endless, and there are no right or wrong ones.
We’ve designed this game from the ground up for room-scale VR. Come immerse yourself in a strange skybound archipelago and befriend Neko the photosynthesizing cat. Build contraptions with your own two hands, life sized and as big as horses, right there in front of you. Play with the physics, juggle pieces, throw darts, and feel another world all around you.
According to the blog post on Radial Games, this title sees a pernament 33% price drop , double the levels (it now have over 100 levels!) with the addition of the whole new “B-Side” playlist, optimization which allow this title to perform better even on lower-than-min-spec PC, as well as all-new gameplay mechanics: Cactuses (that destroy bits of your contraption on touch) and Balloons (that give your Contraption buoyancy to float over Cactuses, gaps, and other challenges). Lastly, there are also 2 new “fun toys in a whole toolbox of things that were cut for the initial version of the game. You can access these new elements in the Level Editor though – so you can generate (and share online) all sorts of zany things for the world to see!”
